This baby was more interested in my scarf and earrings than my Christmas book at a signing in Young Heart Books in Somerset, PA.

Molly and I believe that every good novel needs background research. But at some point we must let her rest her eyes before returning to the kitchen for more cookies and tea.

This little girl was fascinated by the pictures as I read the The Magic of Christmas-The Magic of Love to a group of children at Laurel Arts in Somerset, PA.

Dear reader,

I think of a book as a letter. The author is present speaking to the reader, hoping they will love the book’s cover, and the story as it weaves a message just for them. When the book arrives they will feel the cover and turn it over in their hands. They will flip through its pages before reading, and when they finish, a scent of permanence will enter as they find just the right place for it on their book shelf.

Most authors’ handiwork involves hand-written notes prior to heading to the laptop for edits. The finished book is indeed as powerful as a letter lovingly placed in the mail for the recipient to savor and sometimes read more than once. And if you are like me, you have saved cards, letters, and books over the years, so there will be many.

I suggest you pull them out and start re-reading especially if there has been a long passing of time. You will laugh and cry remembering all the people you reached out to with your words, and how in turn their words touched you.

Along with my books come all the efforts of those who encouraged me. That’s what happens when you live long enough to enjoy a retirement career. This beautiful website came into being because of my husband Jim’s technical skills, patience, and most of all his love for me. He listens to every word I read and he shares his incredible insight.

Thank you for visiting me here. It really is not just ‘about me.’
