Susan Brougher combines imagination with rhyming lyrics to create The Kingdom of Ing—an enchanted place where dragons are playful and kind, and where fairies abound, surrounding the kingdom with magical powers. In this sweet tale of hope, Queen Arabella dreams of a baby to love, while a baby dreams of a mother to love him. The fairies have been summoned. The fairy queen, Alannah, has chosen her very best team—Tea Cup, Looking Glass, and Busy Bee—to work together to bring a bundle of joy into the kingdom. Susan’s charming lyrics encourage parents to have fun reading to their children while providing motivation for the children to begin reading for themselves. She helps young readers to use their counting skills as they find the number of “ing’s” on each page. Her many inventive “ing” words will enhance a young child’s vocabulary. In Susan’s first book, The Strongest Bond, she writes how the wave of a magic wand changed a scullery maid into Cinderella. In her book of poems, The Magic of Christmas—The Magic of Love, her favorite doll, Tinker Bell, sprinkled fairy dust as she flew. In this book, through the use of whimsical illustrations, Susan artfully unfolds the common story of a mother’s desire for a child, and a child’s desire for love.

5 stars – adoption brings hope for both parents and child

– Richard and Liz

Queen Arabella of Ing, a dragon, is sad. Why? She and her husband, King Alexander, have no children. They pray and get everything ready but the king is secretly worried. He commands the fairies to come. How can they help?

This well-written and delightfully illustrated book depicts not only the sadness involved when a couple cannot have children of their own but also the beauty of adoption. It is written on a child’s level so most definitely suitable for the age range suggested of 3-11.

I downloaded this book onto my Kindle. I was not required to write a review but chose to do so. Thanks, Liz

5 stars – magical tale for young children – Sherry Ellis

Ing is a magical kingdom of fairies ruled by a Dragon king and queen who long for a child of their own. Three clever fairies, Tea Cup, Looking Glass, and Busy Bee hatch a plan to make the king and queen’s dream come true.

The Magical Kingdom is a charming story that will capture the imaginations of young children. The brightly colored illustrations are delightful and compliment the text well. As an added bonus, children can learn to recognize the letters, “ING” throughout the text. They can also have fun counting all the words ending in “ING.” Recommended for children ages 3-7. Sherry Ellis, author of Ten Zany Birds

What a wonderful story about dragons and the Kingdom of Ing! I read this to my toddlers and we’re all loving this. The story is engaging, the pages are bright & colorful, and the kids are learning the rhymes repeating with me.
